About 20,000 pilgrims left the city of Kirov to make a journey to Velikoretskoye.

Crusaders of Siberia

The Velikoretskoye pilgrimage takes place every year and is the largest in Russia. For people whose ideals are Great Russia and Orthodox religion the mission is to show that God will not abandon Russia and will bless the President. During this five day journey the pilgrims have to cover a distance of about 180 kilometers, passing through woods, fields and swamps with only shorts stops for prayer and sleep. They carry an icon of St Nicolas, starting from the city of Kirov and heading to the village of Velikoretskoye where, according to the legend, the holy icon was found by a peasant on the bank of the river in the 14th century and has worked many miracles ever since.
